Vernon Cosner, Sr.

Vernon L. Cosner, Sr., age 83, of Bayard, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. He was born on January 21, 1937 in Bismark, WV to the late Marvin and Gladys Cosner. Vernon was a graduate of Bayard High School, Class of 1956. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1960-1961. Vernon retired from Consol Energy after a career in the coal mining industry where he worked as a warehouse supervisor. He attended the Bayard United Methodist Church. Vernon was a kind man with a profound sense of humor. He never met a stranger. He had the unique ability to pick up any instrument and start playing a tune. He enjoyed photography, writing poetry and drawing pictures for his family. Above all, he loved and treasured every moment he spent with his family. He will be truly missed.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Norma (Knotts) Cosner; a son, Vernon L. Cosner, Jr. and wife Kelli; a granddaughter, Brandi Thompson and husband Jay; two great granddaughters, Finley Grace and Berkley Paige; a sister, Alice White; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Cosner and an infant sister, Victoria.

Friends will be received at the Bayard United Methodist Church, 2009 Front Street, Bayard, WV 26707 on Saturday, June 13, 2020 from 11 AM -1 PM at which time a funeral service will be held with Rev. Rebecca Bennett officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Bayard Cemetery. For safety, we kindly encourage all in attendance to wear a face covering, practice social distancing, and if you are sick, stay home and visit with the family in the future.
