Richard Kitzmiller, Sr.

Richard E. "Dick" Kitzmiller Sr., age 79, went peacefully at home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 16, 2020.

Dick was born in Oakland on September 21, 1940, the son of Elmer (Ed) and Gertrude (Uphold) Kitzmiller. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Carole Lee Kitzmiller; a brother, Robert (Bob) King; a granddaughter, Danielle Nicole Hessick; and great-grandson, Sebastian Jay Winters.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Dorcas (Bittner) Kitzmiller; one son, Richard E. Kitzmiller, Jr.; three daughters, Shirley Winters, Mathews, VA, Gina Downes and husband Joe, Amelia, VA, and Julie Harvey, Oakland; a brother, Charlie & Peggy Kitzmiller, Deer Park, and sister Nancy Wagner, Oakland; six grandchildren; Larry Dale Winters Jr., Joseph Blair Winters & wife Ashley, Kenneth "Wayne" Hessick, Kendra Jo Hessick, Kenneth Jay Harvey and wife Clarissa, and Rachel Leigh Harvey; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dick was a 1958 graduate of Southern High School, a United States Army Veteran, having served in the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, KY, and with a tour of duty in Germany, having 55 jumps. After his discharge, he was employed with C&P Telephone/Verizon where he retired with 30 years of service.

Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his quiet time in the woods. He had a quick-wit and ability to make us laugh, and he will be missed dearly.

In accordance with Dick's wishes, he was cremated and a graveside service with full military honors will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 in the Oakland Cemetery, 520 E High Street, Oakland at 11 AM with Pastor Carl Fike officiating.
