Paul "Allen" Naylor

Allen Naylor, 91, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at his home in Oakland, Maryland. Born on May 19, 1927, Allen was the son of the late Arthur E. Naylor, Sr. and Ruth (Michael) Naylor. He was a graduate of Oakland High School and served in the US Navy during World War II. He attended West Virginia Wesleyan and NYU. He later joined the family hardware business, A. D. Naylor & Company. There he served in various roles over the years including managing the retail business and serving as various officers of the Corporation. He retired from Naylor's at the age of 55 to pursue various outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and RVing. Allen was a long-serving member of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, the Oakland City Council, the coffee group, the Liars’ Club, and was instrumental in starting the local Boy Scouts. He was well known for his love of life and commitment to his family, neighbors, and community. Allen’s jovial nature made everyone smile. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at Deep Creek Lake. He supported the community in many ways, including Knights of Columbus, delivering Meals on Wheels, and volunteering at the hospital. He is survived by his wife Mary (Edmiston) Naylor; children, Christine (Doug), Teresa (Larry), Ed (Cindy), David (Alison), Sharon (Greg), and Roger; 13 grandchildren/great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard D. Naylor, Lewis Bartlett Naylor, and Arthur E. Naylor, Jr. Friends will be received at the C&S Fredlock Funeral Home P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Monday, April 22, 2019, from 3 to 5 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated with Father Doug Kenney at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 208 S 4th St., Oakland on Tuesday April 23, 2019, at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Hospice of Garrett County, Inc., PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550 or St. Peter the Apostle Church.
