Margaret Sanders

Margaret W. Sanders, age 97, of Oakland, died on Monday, May 3, 2021.  Born on January 24, 1924 in Kempton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ella Wotring.  She was proceeded in death by her husband Forrest L. Sanders in 2005; a great grandson, Walker Van Hauser on March 29, 2007; and seven brothers and sisters.  She was the last remaining member of her immediate family.

Margaret graduated from Oakland High School and was a homemaker.  She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Oakland.  She lent her talent in crafts creating banners for worship.  Margaret was a past member of the Oakland Homemaker's Club.  She was an annual participant in the Garrett County Fair, receiving the champion and blue ribbons on her quilts, cakes and canning.  Her interest in taking a cake baking class led to creating wedding, birthday and special occasion cakes for the public form many years.  She had a life-long interest in maintaining flower beds, spending time with family and friends and her beloved dog Buster.

Margaret is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Nan Sanders of Westminster; a son, Kenneth Sanders of Oakland and his companion, Faith Riner; a granddaughter and husband Becky and Randy Mellinger of Oakland, granddaughter and husband Cindy and Jamie Hauser of Oakland; great-grandsons, Nick Mellinger and companion Heather Cosner and Marshall Walker Hauser of Oakland.

Visitation services for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at which time a funeral service will be held with the Rev. Dr. Chip Lee officiating.  Private interment will be held in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Garrett County and their staff, as well as her incredibly special caregivers who took such wonderful care of her, special thank you to Katie Bowser, Dory Fike, Faith Riner, Cindy Hauser and her son Ken who never left her side.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 6 2nd St., Oakland, MD 21550.
