June 8, 1958 — July 21, 2021

Oakland

Joyce A. Cosgray-Vontz, 63, of Oakland passed away on July 21, 2021, due to a long fight with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Frank Vontz; brother, Gehrig Cosgray and wife Sharon; nieces and nephews-in-law, Erin and Dave Venker and Rachel and Matt Gates; great nieces, Emma and Grace Venker; step sons, Jim Vontz and wife Phyllis and Chris Vontz and wife Kelly; and granddaughters, Lauren Vontz and Kit Vontz.

She was a 1976 graduate of Southern High School and December 1979 graduate of West Virginia University with a BS in Finance, Insurance & Real Estate.  She obtained her WV Real Estate license while in school, but at the time interest rates were 21 & 22% with nothing moving. She moved to Silver Spring, MD and worked in the mortgage banking industry, getting her Loan Processing Certification, until the banking collapse in the 1980's. She later moved into Defense Contracting beginning with Singer Link in Silver Spring, MD.

Joyce ended her career with Lockheed Martin (LM) as a certified Earned Value Management (EVM) specialist, Sr. Staff, ensuring their government contracts were in compliance with all 32 government guidelines. This allowed her to travel to the various LM sites doing internal contract auditing and meeting numerous employees and government personnel, establishing long term relationships. She was also an EVM instructor teaching and developing training and testing material.

Joyce retired in 2015 from LM with 16 years of service. She and Frank retired to Oakland, MD where they enjoyed being outdoors, riding their Harley's, taking care of their home, and getting reacquainted with many old friends. She was an avid snow skier and had a WISP season pass for over 50 years. She enjoyed snow shoeing, bike riding, walking, and doing yard work.

Joyce joined the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), a program run by Garrett County Community Action, in 2015. She provided many hours of service preparing tax returns for those in need and enjoyed meeting and becoming friends with the many returning customers over the years.

She will be cremated at her request. A celebration of life will be held at the family residence in the near future. The family requests any donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Garrett Regional Medical Center: Cancer Care Center.
