John Shahan, Sr.

John Thomas Shahan, Sr., 72, of Mountain Lake Park, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Dennett Road Manor. Born on August 2, 1946 in Oakland, MD, he was son of the late Arlie R. and Viola V. (Calhoun) Shahan. He was employed by Coca-Cola at the bottling plant in Oakland for ten years and retired from Garrett County Community Action GTS in 2008 with 29 years of service as a driver. John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, JoAnn L. (Durr) Shahan, a daughter, Sharon Shahan and husband Douglas Jenkins; four sons, John T. Shahan, Jr. and companion Lisa Watring, Tracy Shahan and wife Becky, Jim Shahan and wife Anne and Michael Shahan; grandchildren, Donna Shahan and companion Mike Isom, Jr., Kelly Shahan, Racheal Shahan and fiancé Anibal Lopez, Shawn Shahan and companion Taylor Ashby, Ashley Bailey and husband Jonathan, Brenda Jenkins and companion Christian Conover, Leslie Jenkins, Kevin Helbig and companion Felisha Tasker, Donald Helbig, Anthony Shahan, Matthew Shahan, Michelle Shahan, Stephanie Shahan, Destiny Shahan, Brady Shahan; great-grandchildren, Corey Clark, Mike Isom, III, Uahrya Isom, Rahki Isom, Tatianna King, Aspen Shahan, AaronPotts, Alisha Lopez, Mylah Helbig, Jessie and Abbi Bailey; three siblings, Arlie Shahan, Charlene (Shahan) Copeland and Patty (Shahan) Price and husband George; numerous nieces and nephews; a son-in-law, William “Bill” Helbig; a brother-in-law, David Sines, mother-in-law, Agnes (Sines) Paugh; and lots of friends that are close enough to be family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda J. (Shahan) Helbig; seven siblings, Retha Shahan and husband Charles Sliger, Delores Shahan and husband Gene Robinson, Dorothy Shahan and husband Dayton Alexander, Thelma Sweitzer, James Shahan, Howard Shahan, Robert Shahan; sisters-in-law, Norma J. Shahan and Rebecca Boyce. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, March 27 from 4-8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, March 28 at 11 AM with Pastors Donald Uphold and George Price. Interment will be in Deer Park Cemetery with Shawn Shahan, Anthony Shahan, Matthew Shahan, Donald Helbig, Anibal Lopez, Brady Shahan, Aaron Potts and Kevin Helbig serving as pallbearers. www.csfredlockfh.com
