John Legeer

John Richard Legeer, 72, of Deer Park was called to his eternal resting place on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Born on February 18, 1949, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late William Legeer, and Mildred (Mellinger) Crane and step-father Robert Crane.
John was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Vietnam War. He served on the May 26, 1969, Apollo 10 retrieval mission aboard the USS Princeton. John was also a very talented Marine Mechanic for many years and the Pastor of the Elk Garden Church of God, Elk Garden, WV. He deeply loved his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 52 years, Elsa N. (Ochart) Legeer; his children, Tina Rodeheaver and husband Doug, Tammy Wilt, Pamela Santos, and John Legeer and partner Misha Blackmon; seven grandchildren, Kayla Dodge, Elizabeth Legeer, Kassandra Wilt, Megan Hanks-Sison, Brandon Wilt, Ryan Rodeheaver, and Aaliyah Blackmon-Legeer; fifteen great grandchildren; a sister, Lois McHale; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Dawn Legeer; brother, William "Bunk" Legeer; and sisters, Evagene Smith, Judith Wilt, Vauda Legeer and Christina Tasker.
Friends will be received at the Loch Lynn Church of God, 8649 Gorman Rd., Oakland on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, from 5 to 8 PM and on Thursday, July 15, 2021, from 10 to 11 AM. At 11 AM, a funeral service will be held in the church with Pastors Ivan and Cindy Ackerman officiating. Interment, with military honors accorded by combined honor guard of the American Legion Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077, will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Swanton.
