Obituary

Donald Lee Savage, 84, of Oakland died on Sunday, March 15, 2020, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on April 8, 1935, in Sang Run, he was the son of the late Thomas Ward and Della Ann (Rodeheaver) Savage.

Don served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked at ABL up until the time of the second explosion and then worked for the Westvaco Paper Mill. He also worked for Oakland Equipment until 1963 when he started working for Shaffer Ford in Oakland, from which he would retire after over 50 years of service.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #71, and he was also a Mason.

In addition to spending time with his family, Don enjoyed golfing and fishing. He will be remembered as a very giving person who had a deep love and pride for his family.

Don is survived by his four children, Kevin Savage and wife Renee of Oakland, Kayla Cathell and husband Carl of Oakland, Gregory Savage and wife Penny of Terra Alta, WV, and Christine Savage of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Brian Cathell and wife Caroline, Andrea Stephens and husband Justin, Zachary Savage and wife Mandy, Daniel Cathell, Matthew Savage and wife Kera, Eric Graham and wife Jessica, Phil Graham and wife Jennifer, and Aleea Bolyard; great grandchildren, Taylor Stephens, Jacob Stephens, Elias Stephens, Benjamin Stephens, Colton Cathell, Lillian Cathell, Noah Savage, Cole Savage, Kaylie Graham, Mackenzie Graham, Cassidy Graham, Chase Graham and Cole Graham; a brother, Samuel Savage; sisters and brothers in law, Linda Rech and husband William, Fred Bell and wife Joyce, Terry Bell and wife Darla; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Arveta (Bell) Savage, in 2013; three sisters, Della Jean Barello, Leota Ward and Martha Johnson-Lawton; and four brothers, Ward Savage, Elwood "Bud" Savage, William Savage and Robert Savage.

According to his wishes, Don was cremated. In accordance with current state regulations, a memorial service will be held on a future date when it is deemed safe for people to gather.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550 or a charity of one's choice.
