Charles Royer

Charles “Charlie” Clarence Royer, 91, of Oakland, MD, passed away on September 14, 2021, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. He was born April 21, 1930 in Huntingdon, PA, a son to the late Clarence Sprankle and Edna May (Harpster) Royer.

Charlie served in the United States Coast Guard. He proudly attended a one-room school house. He was a graduate of Towson University and American University, earning his Master’s Degree. He retired in 1986 from Baltimore County Schools after 34 years of being a teacher, guidance counselor and elementary school principal. Charlie was a great story teller, he loved history and outdoor activities. He liked to eat cookies and was mowing the lawn until a week before he died. He was known for his perfect penmanship and willingness to help others. Most of all, Charlie loved his Lord and family.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen Lynn Royer and Donna Leigh Whitehead and husband Chuck; two grandsons, Andrew Charles Whitehead and wife Lindsay and David Brandon Whitehead; “Pappy” also had two great grandchildren, Madeline and Carson Whitehead; he was an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews; and will be missed by his “camp friends”.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Hagan (Peters) Royer, and one sister, Jean Eleanor Sheffer.

At the request of Mr. Royer, he will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, September 17, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Matthew Paugh and Sister Deborah McClellan officiating. The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Royer family at this time.
