William Ashby

William H. Ashby, 65, of Swanton, passed away on June 3, 2024, at his home. Born on August 17, 1958, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Bruce A. Ashby and Margaret E. Ashby Dennison.

Bill was a 1976 graduate of Bruce High School. He worked for Westvaco for 41 years. He spent countless hours working on the family tree farm. He was a past trustee of Bethel United Methodist Church, a member of the Oakland Lodge #192 AF & AM, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a Primitive Fur Trade reenactor, which included buckskinning demonstrations at elementary schools. He enjoyed hunting, tractor pulling, muscle cars, collecting antique firearms and selling antiques with his wife, Linda. Bill walked his faith by helping others. He had a special gift for remembering everyone who he met throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda K. (Bernard) Ashby, to whom he was married on May 24, 1980; two sons, Chase W. Ashby and wife Lacie and Tyler A. Ashby; his precious grandchildren, Luke R. Ashby, Cassidy R. Ashby, and Haysen B. Ashby; his father and mother in law, Dick and Dotty Bernard; and a brother in law, Rich Bernard and wife Brenda.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, John Dennison.

Friends will be received on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 4 to 7 PM, at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11 AM in the Lakeside Assembly of God Church with Pastor Steve Schuessler officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
