Sylvia Spencer

Sylvia Jean Spencer, 84, of Oakland passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on March 19, 1937, in Shalmar, MD, she was the daughter of the late Lyle and Victoria (Harvey) Sharpless.

She was known as "Jean" to those who knew her best. In earlier years, she worked as a bookkeeper for Columbia Gas. After raising her children, Jean then went on to become an instructional assistant at Broad Ford Elementary School. She attended Bethel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Carl Spencer; her daughter, Patti Stevenson and husband Rubin; her two sons, Todd Spencer and wife Mariam and Jeff Spencer and wife Sherry; sister Joann Bernard and husband Robert; a special cousin, Marcia Moore and husband Jim; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Miller and the staff at Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for taking care of Jean.

Private family visitation and funeral service were held in the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland with Rev. Dr. Matthew Paugh officiating. Private interment in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Swanton.
