Stanley Sedmock

December 10, 1935 — September 18, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Stanley J. Sedmock Sr., 82, announces his passing on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends at Cortland Acres. He was born December 10, 1935 in Thomas, West Virginia a son of the late Peter P. Sedmock Sr. and Antonia Milavec Sedmock.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Darlene C. Sedmock of Thomas, West Virginia, two children, Pamela K. (Matthew) Caruthers of Chantilly, Virginia and Stanley J. "Champ" Sedmock Jr., at Cortland Acres in Thomas, West Virginia. Also surviving, one sister, Mary S. Maguire of Thomas, West Virginia, one brother, Edward (Barbara) Sedmock of Canton, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Peter P. Sedmock, Frank Sedmock, and Louis Sedmock, ans two sisters, Dorothy Spechyock and Betty Myers.

Stanley Sedmock was a graduate of St. Thomas Catholic School, Thomas High School, and Fairmont State College. He also obtained a master's degree from West Virginia University with an additional 40 credit hours. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country for two years. After graduation from college, he taught in both the Garrett County School System and the Tucker County School System as a teacher of English, History, Industrial Arts and Mechanical Drawings. He also served as a counselor and coach for the basketball and football programs for 17 years. He was a mentor to all of his team players.

He was an active member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and of their choir. He sang for numerous funeral services at the church. He was an avid fan of WVU football and the New York Yankees.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 6 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church of Thomas, West Virginia with Father Timothy Grassi as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
