Shirley Bittinger

Shirley Ann Bittinger, 73, of Oakland died on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Garrett Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Born on August 16, 1945, in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Hazel (King) Clary. In earlier years, she had worked at the HP Store and for the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home. She had retired from the Garrett County Board of Education after serving many years as a teacher’s assistant at Loch Lynn and Yough Glades elementary schools. She was known to many former students as “Mrs. B.” Shirley enjoyed Bingo, going out to restaurants, and most especially, spending time with her family. She is survived by three sons, Richard R. Bittinger and wife Sheila, William L. Bittinger and wife Nichole, and Scott A. Bittinger and wife Becky; grandchildren, Lowell Bittinger and wife Melanie, Kayleigh Cooper and husband Adam, Jenna Whitacre and husband Dewayne, Max Bittinger, Bryson L. Bittinger, Meghan P. Bittinger, Nathan Bittinger and Avery Bittinger; great grandchildren, Zachary Bittinger and Allison Whitacre; a brother, Charles Clary and wife Eva; a sister, Patricia Liller and husband Delbert; a sister in law, Helen M. Bittinger; also a number of nieces and nephews and her special friends from Liberty Square. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Raymond Bittinger, and a sister, Mary “Sis” Sanders and her husband James. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, from 4 to 7 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at 12 PM with Pastor Dave Marsh officiating. Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
