Rocky Lane Shaffer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, passed away at the age of 70 on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in his hometown of Oakland, MD. Born on March 23, 1954, he was the son of the late Charles "CD" and Oakareda "Poodle" Shaffer. Rocky was a proud coal miner employed by the Mettiki Coal Corporation, where he dedicated 37 years of hard work.

Aside from his career in coal mining, Rocky found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time hunting and fishing in the peaceful outdoors, and could often be found tinkering with his tractor. Rocky cherished the time he spent with his wife Pamela, particularly when they were shopping together or baking delicious cookies in their kitchen.

A devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Rocky never missed a game, rooting for his team with unwavering loyalty. When he wasn't cheering on the Steelers, he could be found strumming his guitar, serenading loved ones with his music. Known for his captivating storytelling, Rocky had a way of enchanting those around him with his tales and memories.

Rocky is survived by his loving wife Pamela K. Shaffer; two children, Bryan D. Shaffer, Brandi D. Shaffer Blythe and husband Matthew; grandchildren, Bryson Shaffer, Brielle Shaffer, Brayden Shaffer, Brooklyn Blythe and Jett Maxwell Blythe.

In addition to his parents, Rocky was preceded in death by a grandson, Bentley the Brave Blythe; and two siblings, Betty Lou (Shaffer) Cogan and Dennis Carlton Shaffer.

In accordance with Rocky's wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial service to celebrate Rocky's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can gather to share stories, reminisce, and bid farewell to a remarkable man who touched the lives of many. In his memory, let us remember Rocky as the kind-hearted soul who brought light and laughter to those around him. May his legacy live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
