Robert Eugene Browning, 71, of Oakland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 31, 2018, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Born on July 23, 1947, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Donald M. and Edith D. (Fauber) Browning. Growing up, he attended St. Peter’s Catholic School in Oakland and was a proud member of the “4th Street Gang” with his brothers and closest friends. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and a graduate of Mercersburg Academy, Gettysburg College, and Temple University where among his other successes he was an outstanding and accomplished wrestler. He continued his education later in life at West Virginia University and Frostburg State University. He was a dedicated and lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Oakland where he discipled, taught Bible classes, and was active in the Soul Food Ministry delivering meals to those in need. Rob was a beloved teacher and wrestling coach, having started the Southern Mat Club. Among his many talents, he was a lover and writer of poetry and was an avid US Civil War and World War II history buff. Throughout his life he was always a champion of the underdog and will be remembered for his desire and ability to help those who couldn’t help themselves holding a special place in his heart for animals and young children. In his free time, he enjoyed relaxing at “the farm”, his cherished home in the country in Randolph County, WV. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeannie (Hawk) Browning; children, Christopher Brake and Amy, Carnie Carr III and wife Heather, Scott Carr and wife Tonya, Harry “Robin” Browning and wife Teresa, Patrick Browning and wife Paula, Nikki Delisio and husband Chris, Joshua Carr and wife Tasha, Christopher Carr, Michael Browning and wife Jade, and Wenqin Shan and Vickie; grandchildren, Garrett, Quentin, Payton, Samaria, Kara, Isaac, Gwyneth, Kane and wife Morghan, Robbie, Molly, Annabelle, Lucy, Tessa, Juliet, Kaiden, Kindsley, Isaiah, Lana, Alexa, Christopher, Gabriel, Eli, Jonah and Micah; one great granddaughter, Juniper; two brothers, Donald M. “Mac” Browning, Jr. and wife Karen and James Browning and wife Charlene; a sister, Paula J. Browning; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by beloved grandparents, Ralph and Maude Fauber and Cheston and Abbey Browning. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A, 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, from 5 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 11 AM in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 312 E Oak St., Oakland with Rev. Matthew Paugh officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be held in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HART for Animals, PO Box 623, McHenry, MD 21541 or Soul Food Ministry c/o St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
