Richard Bruce Ours, 83, of Harman, passed away on May 24, 2024, at Davis Medical Center surrounded by his children and family. Born on July 8, 1940, he was the son of the late Alonzo Victor and Doris Mae (Watts) Ours.
Richard was a skilled carpenter and business owner who leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and devotion to his family and God. He founded Rich Ours Contracting in 1986. He took great pride in his work and built many lasting friendships along the way. He passed on his knowledge and skills to others and was a mentor to many.
Throughout his life, Richard found great joy in hunting, fishing, and spending time in the outdoors. He adored being a Father and Grandfather. His love for his family was unwavering and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Rich had a hearty sense of humor and loved to spend time and share meals with his friends and family. Richard's faith was central to his life and he was always eager to share God's word with those around him. Rich was a member of the Dryfork Assembly of God, a church that he built, and a place he considered one of the greatest accomplishments of his career.
He is survived by four children, Lisa (Ours) Turner and husband Tim of Annapolis, MD, Tracy Ours and wife Angelika "AJ" of Stevensville, MD, Weylin Barkley and wife Jennifer of Harman, and Brant Ours and wife Karen of Elkins; ten grandchildren, Erica (Turner) Zentz and husband Tyler, Alexa Turner, Emily, Maggie, and Lucy Ours, Annie Barkley, Tessa Propst, Alena Barkley, and Ella and Leah Ours; three great grandchildren, Zayden Dodd, Gunner Bonner, and Halsey Zentz; and nine siblings, Alonzo Ours, Jr. and wife Barbara, Neil Ours and wife Marlene, Darlene Casto and husband James, Naomi Pennington and husband Dick, Erma Koontz, Sharon Kimble and husband Cecil, Danie Ours, Mickey Ours and wife Linda, and Phyllis Dolly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Andrea Joy (Waybright) Ours, to whom he was married on May 27, 1978, and three siblings, Beulah Crites, Emmalee Ours, and Teddy Ours.
At Rich's request, his service will be held at the Dryfork Assembly of God.
Friends will be received on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 4 to 7 PM, at the Dryfork Assembly of God Church. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11 AM in the church, with Pastor Vivan "Nub" Watts officiating. Interment will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery.
