Ray Franklin Fulk, Sr., 92, of Bayard, WV died on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on November 9, 1925, at Henry, WV, located in Grant County, he was the son of the late Harry M. and Lucy (Wilson) Fulk. He graduated from Bayard High School in 1943. He then served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Betty Lou Brooks on June 16, 1948, and recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary weeks before her passing on July 2, 2018. Ray retired in 1988 as a foreman from the West Virginia Department of Highways where he had worked for 31 years. After retirement he became the “Weatherman of Bayard”, where he reported weather daily to a local weather bureau. He enjoyed gardening, playing the mandolin and guitar and spending time with his family. He played and sang gospel and bluegrass music with his friends for many years at churches and various events. He was a member of the Bayard United Methodist Church. He previously served as treasurer of the Bayard/Mt. Storm Lions Club where he was presented with the Melvin Jones Award for dedicated humanitarian service. He also served as treasurer for the Bayard Older Americans for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Betty L. Fulk; a daughter, Rachel F. Guthrie, who passed in 2010; son in law, Robert Guthrie, Jr.; sisters, Bonnie Simmons, Gladys Chapman, and a brother, Curtis Fulk. He leaves behind two daughters, Regina Marple and husband Richard Sr. of Gorman and Rhonda Wolfe and husband Jeffrey of Mt. Storm; a son, Ray F. Fulk, Jr. and wife Peggy of Bayard; five grandchildren, Richard Marple, Jr. and wife Bev of Gorman, Randall Marple and wife Betsy of Gorman, Jeremy Wolfe of Mt. Storm, Jaime Wolfe of Stonewood, WV, and Gina Fulk of Mt. Grove; five great grandchildren, Nolan Marple and wife Amanda of Mt. Storm, Kristin, Kaylee and Jacob Wolfe of Mt. Storm, and Hayden Marple of Gorman; two step great grandchildren, Michael Bowser of Morgantown and Emily Bowser of Deer Park; one great great granddaughter, Avery Marple of Mt. Storm; and several nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and a dedicated family man; a kind gentle soul with a big heart and was always there to help anyone in his family or community in need. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, from 5 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the Bayard United Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at 11 AM with Pastor Rebecca Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the Bayard Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the combined honor guard of the Deer Park VFW #10077 and the American Legion Post #71 of Oakland.
