Opal Myers

Opal V. Myers, 88, of Aurora, WV, died on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Peace Healthcare Dennett Road Manor. Born on July 31, 1935, in Rowlesburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Everett A. and Mary Victoria (Wilhelm) Shields.

Opal was a graduate of Rowlesburg High School and had been a cook for the Preston County Schools, having cooked for the students in schools all over the county as well as the Preston County 4-H Camp. She was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church where she had also been a member of the United Methodist Women. She served her community through the Preston County Community Educational Outreach Service (formerly Preston County Extension Homemakers), as a 4-H Leader, volunteer for the Aurora Ambulance Service, and as a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Angela Stevens and husband Richard of Oakland, Jerry Myers and wife Jeannie of Oakland, and Michael Myers and wife Sue of Aurora; grandchildren, Bethany Stevens, Victoria Yoder and husband Derek, Benjamin, Cody, Tanner and Sammy Myers, Hannah Myers-Shirer Miles and husband Wayne, Linda Mayle, and Melissa Jones and husband Tom; great grandchildren, Elliott, Jacob and wife Mia, Dawson, and Rooney; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin L. Myers, in 2017, and her brother, Donald Shields, and his wife, Katherine.

Friends will be received at the Aurora Memorial Building on Tuesday, February 6, from 4-8 PM, with a funeral service held on Wednesday, February 7, at 11 AM, at the Aurora United Methodist Church, with Pastor Michael Lantz and Bob Spaid officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Preston County Camp, PO Box 597, Bruceton Mills, WV, 26525, in memory of Opal Myers.
