Leo Paul Custer, 85, of Friendsville, passed away on September 20, 2024. Born on January 17, 1939, in Swanton, he was the son of the late Heyward and Effie (Friend) Custer.
A dedicated farmer through and through, his passion for farming led him to become a cherished member of the Garrett County Farm Bureau, where he shared his knowledge and learned from others in the community. Leo's interests went beyond the fields; he found pleasure in attending stockyard and farm sales, indulged in hunting, and took delight in assisting fellow farmers by hauling hay. But above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janet (Marley) Custer; four children, Paul Custer and wife Sharon of Accident, Charles Custer and wife Darla of Friendsville, Leonard Custer and partner Dixie Ashby of Swanton, and Marsha Marple of Oakland; nine grandchildren, Joshua Custer and wife Jolene, Shaina Saturday and husband Mike, Chelsie Manges and husband Bryce, Charlie "Chas" Custer, Lee Custer and wife Allie, Todd Custer and wife Bethany, Brandon Manko and wife Heather, Tara McManus and husband Trent, and Dale Marple and wife Kaya; nineteen great grandchildren; along with a numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Glade 4-H Club, 3118 Bittinger Rd., Swanton, MD 21561.
Friends will be received on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 3 to 6 PM at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 11 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Mike Saturday officiating. Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
