Larry Smith

Larry Neil Smith, 71, of Oakland died on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at his home.  Born on August 31, 1946, in Clarksburg, WV, he was the son of the late Leroy Clarence and Lumaryland (Maculey) Smith.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jamie Smith.  He was a graduate of Fairmont State College in WV and was retired from the Maryland State Police having served 25 years as TFC with nine years on road patrol and sixteen years with K-9 and Search and Rescue. He also worked Homeland Security for the Garrett County Sheriff’s Department and had retired as a co-owner and builder with E & S Construction.  He was a life-member of the Oakland Elks Lodge #2481 and served as PER and Treasurer.  He was also a life-member of the Deer Park Sportman’s Club and was a member of the American Legion Post #71, the Little Horn Hunting Camp and F.O.P. Lodge #40. He had been a member of the Methodist Church.  Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, reading, watching westerns and spending time with friends.  His greatest joys included spending time with his family, especially taking his grandkids and great grandkids to the candy store.  He was a great “Pappaw.”  He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra (Fox) Smith; two sons, Michael Smith and wife Shawn and Tommy Smith and wife Jodi, all of Oakland; a daughter in law, Kerri Smith Ashby; grandchildren, Melinda Smith-Pritt and husband Brandon, Laura Smith, Ryan Gordon, Amber Gordon, Ashley Johnson and husband Cody, Megan Smith, Anthony Smith, Lindsey Smith and Tori Smith; great grandchildren, Raelynn Smith-Pritt, McKinley Smith-Pritt and Will Johnson; a brother, Loren Smith and wife Donna of West Union, WV; a niece, Tammy Eddy; and a nephew, Brian Smith.   Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Thursday, June 14, 2018, from 6 to 9 PM and on Friday, June 15, 2018, from 11 am to 1 PM after which time a funeral service will be held. Interment will follow in the Bray Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad or the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department.
