Joyce "Joy" Thayer Cornish, 80, of Oakland, died on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at her home. Born on June 28, 1939, in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late John "Pip" and Regina "Den" Thayer. Joy had attended beauty school in Morgantown and worked as a beautician. She was an extraordinary painter who also enjoyed travel, flowers and spending time with her friends and family. She was a faithful Christian who had attended both the Baptist and Episcopal churches during her lifetime. She will be remembered as an extraordinary wife and mother.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Paul Clark Cornish; her children, Paul P. Cornish and fiancé Patricia Dawson, Mark Cornish and wife Stefanie, and Christine Cornish, all of Oakland; grandchildren, Jessica Cornish of Wilmington, NC, Hunter Lewis and Brock Lewis, both of Oakland; a brother, James Thayer and wife Sharon of Morgantown, WV; and two nephews, Jim and Brian Thayer.

Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Friday, June 19, 2020, from 5 to 8 PM. We ask that everyone wear a face covering, observe social distancing and refrain from attending if you or a family member are feeling ill. Funeral service will be private with interment in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
