Jo Ann Remley, 91, of Mountain Lake Park, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Peace Healthcare at Dennett Road Manor. Born on May 23,1932, in Jane Lew, WV, she was the daughter of the late John Hayward and Lucy Jean (Summers) Sutton.
She graduated from Jane Lew High School in 1950, and went on to West Virginia Wesleyan, where she studied Home Economics until her marriage in June, 1952. She was primarily a homemaker, raising five children. Jo Ann was a devoted Christian, witnessing by her day-to-day example. She pursued several passions, supporting her husband in his ministry, as well as sewing, crocheting, reading, cooking, bowling and music. She participated in bowling leagues until she went to full time work in 1970. She was active in Bethel United Methodist Church of Mountain Lake Park, during the time her husband served there from 1960-1983. They went on to serve other churches in the WV Conference from 1983 until Rev. Remley's retirement in 1993. While in Mountain Lake Park, Jo Ann was most active in the church choir and she sang in a female trio from the late 1960s to early 1970s. Upon Rev. Remley's retirement, the couple returned to Mountain Lake Park. Jo Ann served as a part-time pianist for Bethel United Methodist Church from 1992 until 2010. She also was the pianist for the Remley Family singing group from 1995-2010.
Jo Ann is survived by her children, G. Eddie Remley and wife Lyn of Mountain Lake Park, Beverly J.Sincell and husband Ben of Oakland; Peggy S. Rohrbaugh and husband Dave of Oakland, Pamela J. DeBerry and husband John of Stafford, VA, and Rebecca L. Fike and husband Rodney of Accident. She is also survived by one nephew and two nieces; sixteen grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. James F. Remley; two sisters, Dorothy Jean Pockrus and Mary Sue Darnall; and one great grandson, Matthew D. Basile.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church in memory of Jo Ann (In designation for hand chimes for the choir) or to the Alzheimer's Association.
Jo Ann's request for cremation will be honored. Friends will be received on June 15, 2024, from 10 to 11 AM at the Bethel United Methodist Church of Mountain Lake Park. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM in the church with Pastor Allen Murlin officiating.
