Henry Yoder, 59, of Oakland, passed away at Peace Healthcare of Dennett Road Manor on December 29, 2023. Born on March 30, 1964, in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of Alvin and Lydia (Zook) Yoder. He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Eli and Noah; a sister-in-law, Cora Yoder; and a nephew, Jason Yoder.
He is survived by his mother; a brother, John Yoder; two sisters, Rachel Peachey and husband Rufus, Nancy Bender and husband Henry, all of Oakland; a sister-in-law, Sadie Yoder of Sudlersville; nineteen nieces and nephews; and twenty-three great nieces and nephews.
Henry was employed at Appalachian Crossroads in the janitorial department for many years. Born with Down Syndrome, he was one of God's special children. He enjoyed interacting with, and teasing people, laughter, music, and singing. After his mother's health declined, he was faithfully taken care of by John and Cora Yoder for five years. Then he lived in Appalachian Crossroads Group Homes for three years.
The family is deeply grateful to the caregivers and staff of Appalachian Crossroads for all the services they provided, and for the love and care they gave Henry.
Family and friends will be received at the Gortner Amish Church, 4391 Mason School Rd., Oakland, on Monday, January 1, 2024, from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 10 AM in the church with Bishop Alvin Beachy officiating. Interment will follow in the Gortner Amish Cemetery.
