Frederick Polce, Sr.

Frederick "Fred" Polce, Sr., 78, of Oakland died on Friday, September 3, 2021, at his home after an illness with pancreatic cancer. Born on October 10, 1942, in Morgantown, WV, he was the son of the late Pietro and Elsie (Tarantini) Polce.
He was a graduate of Morgantown High School and West Virginia University. Fred remained a lifelong Mountaineer fan. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1966. He has worked as a superintendent for Mettiki Coal and the Garrett County Roads Department. After retirement, he was a substitute bus driver. He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Oakland.
He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Bertha R. "Betsy" (Eder) Polce; his children, Fred Polce, Jr. of Oakland, Tracy Scott and husband Dave of Zionsville, IN, and Marcy Devlin and husband Jeff of Bryan, OH,; grandchildren, Tanner Polce and wife Shelby, Kelsie Hardesty and husband JD, Tricia Boulais and husband Nate, Tyler Scott and wife Ana, Erin Scott, Jeffrey Devlin, Brody Devlin, Hannah Devlin and Matthew Devlin; great grandchildren, Zachary, Micah and Luke Boulais, Talia and Aaliyah Scott; a sister, Libby Hastings and husband Kent; a brother, Mario "Joe" Polce and wife Wilma; and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, Fred has been cremated. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 11 AM in St. Peter the Apostle, 208 S 4th St., Oakland, with Father C. Doug Kenney officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
