Frances Barnette Nicholson, 73, of Oakland, passed away on November 19,2023, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on April 4, 1950, in Washington D.C., she was the daughter of the late Millard Frederick and Edna Jean (McCown) Barnette.

Frances was a graduate of Washington Lee High School and pursued a career as a secretary, first working for the Army in the Pentagon, next at Mobil Oil and Exxon, and lastly, West Rock Paper Company. Frances had a great love for animals and enjoyed helping her husband on the farm, taking care of their Long Horn Cattle and Llamas. She enjoyed meeting with her friends at Tygart Lake State Park in Grafton, WV, demonstrating spinning and weaving as part of public education. Frances was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed sewing at a very young age, often times making her own dresses.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Wayne Lee Nicholson; three children, Daniel A. Nicholson and wife Laura of Ashburn, VA, Brian A. Nicholson and wife Amanda of Fredericksburg, VA, and Paul B. Nicholson and wife Mandy of Herdon, VA; eight grandchildren, Catherine, Mackenzie, Stephanie, Teresa, Benjamin, Gabriel, Kyle Nicholson and wife Kiley of Northern, VA, and Darbie Nicholson and fiance Chad of Northern, VA; two brothers, Millard Barnette and wife Paula of TX, and Hugh Clifton Barnette and partner Mary of NC; and two nieces, Ashley Barnette and Kystine of Northern, VA.

There are no services scheduled at this time.
