Dennis Caton

March 17, 1955 — November 20, 2021

Oakland

Pastor Dennis James Caton, 66, of Oakland went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Born on March 17, 1955, in Arlington, VA, he was the son of the late Jackson Allen and Margaret Albine (Albrecht) Caton.
He was a proud US Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He served as an Airdale until his separation in 1980. Pastor Dennis loved his family, friends, and the congregation of Lakeside Assembly of God, which he pastored faithfully for eleven years, but most of all he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Dennis had a kind, patient and loving heart. He was never too busy to have a listening ear or help someone in need.
Pastor Dennis will be greatly missed by his family, friends, congregation and all those who loved him; he leaves a void that cannot be filled. He attended the Northside Assembly of God in Lakeland, Florida, where he was an active member serving many roles. Dennis graduated from Southeastern University in Lakeland with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a double major in Christian Education. He became a licensed minister with the Assemblies of God in 1992 and an ordained minister in 2001. His first pastorate was for Perrytown Assembly of God in Perrytown, NC, after which he was associate pastor for Sand Hills Assembly of God, also in North Carolina. In 2010, he and his family moved to Oakland to pastor the Lakeside Assembly of God. In addition to serving his God and spending time with his family, he enjoyed playing guitar, fishing, golfing and motorcycle riding.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Susan Denise Caton; a son, Justin Aaron Caton; two sisters, Brenda Tatu and husband Wayne and Dorothy Canady and husband Dennis; two brothers, Jon Caton and wife Kimberly and Jerry Caton and wife Sylvia; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Caton; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dog, Charley, with whom he had a special bond, they loved each other dearly and Charley has lost his friend and master. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Caton and Jack Caton.
Friends will be received at the Lakeside Assembly of God, 18012 Garrett Hwy, Oakland, MD, on Monday, November 29, 2021, from 5 to 7 PM. At 7 PM, a Celebration of Life will be held with Pastor Ross Glotfelty and Pastor Jim Mou officiating. Military honors by the combined honor guard of the American Legion Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lakeside Assembly of God. The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, Oakland is honored to be caring for Pastor Dennis's family.
