David Peachey

David C. Peachey, Sr., 96, of Oakland, MD, passed away on January 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 13, 1927, in Allensville, PA, he was the son of the late Jacob J. and Annie Lizzie Peachey.

David attended Allensville Public School. He was baptized upon his confession of faith in his youth; and was a faithful member of the Gortner Amish Church. He was well known for his reverence for God, trust in the Lord Jesus, and the delight he had in reading God's Word. After 45 years of diligent dairy farming, he retired and started enjoying his hobbies in life. He loved woodworking, gardening, and traveling. He was a devoted intercessor for his family and others who were in need. He enjoyed visiting with friends, singing, and being a part of his church community.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 74 years, Elizabeth Mae Peachey, to whom he was married on November 10, 1949. Also surviving are fourteen children, Ann, widow of Aquila Kanagy of McVeyton, PA, Lavina Renno and husband John of Lewistown, PA, Katie Peachey and husband Crist of Belleville, PA, Emma Swarey and husband Henry of Mattawanna, PA, Alta, widow of Leon Miller of Commodore, PA, Barbara Wanner and husband Warren of Cornersville, TN, Ruth Schrock and husband Ezra of Oakland, MD, Rufus Peachey and wife Rachel (Yoder) of Oakland, MD, Samuel Peachey and wife Betty (Heshberger) of Campbell, Hill, IL, Reuben Peachey and wife Ada (Swartzentruber) of Oakland, MD, David Peachey, Jr., and wife Tena (Petersheim) of Oakland, MD, Rhoda Kinsinger and husband Henry of Oakland, MD, Lois Schrock and husband Albert of Oakland, MD, Elizabeth Bender and husband Edwin of Castorland, NY; 83 grandchildren; 187 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two siblings, Annie Peachey and husband Josiah of Belleville, PA, and Samuel J. Peachey of Belleville, PA; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Nancy, Katie, Sylvia, and Mary; two sons in law, Aquilla Kanagy and Leon Miller; two grandchildren, Ruth Ann Kanagy and Isaac Bender; one great grandchild, Linda Wanner.

The family would like to express their appreciation to all who visited and gave encouragement to David during the last years of his journey. A special thank you to his daughter, Ruth Schrock and her husband Ezra, and their family for the countless hours of labor in caring for David during his declining years. The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care given from Hospice of Garrett County and a special thank you to Lisa Sypolt for her excellent assistance in providing comfort, care, and compassion during the final few months.

Friends will be received on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 6 to 8 PM, and on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 1 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Gortner Amish Church, 3271 Mason School Road, Oakland, MD 21550. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 10 AM in the church with Alvin Beachy officiating. Interment will follow in the Gortner Amish Church Cemetery.
