Connie Barnes Whitehair, 91, of Davis, WV, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in the care of Mountain Hospice and surrounded by her family on May 3, 2025. Born on August 24, 1933, in Thomas, WV, she was one of fourteen children of the late Charles Roy and Louristine Arretta (Durr) Barnes.
Connie was a graduate of Thomas High School. She was very proud of winning the golden horseshoe as the only winner from the area that year. She worked for John Sayger at the Davis Drug Store and the Sayger's Souvenir Stand. She also baked many beautiful wedding cakes for numerous brides over the years and birthday cakes. She loved playing bingo and traveled with her friends to various bingo venues. She was a life time member of the Davis FOE#936, and for years, was a monthly contributor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters, Lori Quattro and husband Joe and Sherri Helmick both of Davis; three grandchildren, Duane Poling and wife Missy of Cannon Settlement, Kimberly Idleman and husband Allen of McGaheysville, VA, and Adam Helmick and wife Megan of Davis; seven great grandchildren, Timothy, Dustin Idleman, both of McGaheysville, VA. Josh Idleman and wife R'Maani of Port Republic, VA, Courtney White and husband Cory of Parsons, WV, Lindsey Poling of Charleston, WV, Owen Helmick and Jason Helmick both of Davis, WV, Cole Carr of Cannon Settlement; three great great grandchildren, Ariyah Idleman of Port Republic, VA, and Bristol White and Gracyn White of Parsons, WV; one brother, Jeff Barnes and wife Barbara of Davis, WV; and one sister, Delores Sisler of Morgantown, WV.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Whitehair; her son, Kenny "Oops" Whitehair; seven brothers, Charles "Sonny" Barnes, Bob Barnes, Jerry Barnes, Bradley Barnes, Larry Barnes, Jimmy Barnes, and Robert Barnes; and four sisters, Donna Kisner, Judy Matthews, Sharon Oxley, and Patricia Falls.
At the request of Connie, she was cremated with no viewing or service. A family graveside burial will be held at a later date. The Fredlock and Fenner Funeral Homes - Davis Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
