Clarence L. "Jake" Friend

Clarence Leon "Jake" Friend, age 70, of Oakland passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020.  Born on March 9, 1950 in Keyser, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Sherman and Della Friend.

Jake graduated from Southern High School and Catherman’s Business School in Cumberland.  He was employed by the Town of Oakland for several years most recently at the water department.  He retired from his position in June 2020.  Jake was known for his goofy jokes and his contagious smile.  He was a story teller who loved to dance.  It has been said that his dance moves could rival those of his favorite singer, Elvis Presley.  Jake was a Harley Davison rider and also of fan of Ford Trucks.  He enjoyed farming with his family, teaching the little ones how to care for the animals and the land at an early age.  Pappy Jake will be sorely missed.

Jake is survived by his wife, Clara Sisler Friend; two sons, Timothy L. Friend and wife Shelby of Oakland, Terry A. Friend and wife Maria of Wasilla, Alaska; stepchildren, Victoria Insley of Oakland, Rhonda Hutchins and husband Kevin of Morgantown, Roberta Cvetnick and husband Eric of Oakland, Deanna Bishop and husband Joe of Oakland; son-in-law, Dave Insley; four granddaughters; one grandson; six step granddaughters; three step grandsons; five step great granddaughters; one step great-great grandson, and three step great-great granddaughters.

In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy L. Friend; one step grandson, Garrett A. Cyphert; and four brothers, Sherman Friend, Howard Friend, Harland "Buss" Friend, Alfred "Joe" Friend and two infant brothers.

Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd Street, Oakland, on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 from 2-4 PM.  A funeral service following immediately with Pastor Barbara Rexrode officating. Private interment will be in George Cemetery.
