Bruce T. Swift, Sr., 85, of Oakland, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023, at Cherry Hill Assisted Living. Born on December 5, 1937, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Theodore S. and Elizabeth (Lohr) Swift.
Bruce was the oldest of five boys. He was raised by his grandparents, Bruce and Bertha Lohr, until he graduated from Southern High School in 1956, at which time he moved to Wheaton, MD. He was a union lather by trade local 9. He owned and operated, along with his father and brothers, A & P Contractors Inc. for many years. He always considered Garrett County his home and returned there upon retirement. He was a proud member of the Mt. Top Cruisers Car Club. He enjoyed the outdoors and anything to do with motorsports, but especially NASCAR.
He is survived by his son, Bruce T. Swift Jr. and wife Carmela of Oakland; a daughter, Barbara Jean Duckers and husband Steve of Toms River, NJ; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bolyard, Davey Swift, Samantha Swift, Lindsey Rolsky and husband Benji, and Jake Duckers; four great grandchildren, Cole Bolyard, Blake Bolyard, Karter Welch, and Audrey Rolsky; and two brothers, Garry Swift of Accident and Greg Swift of South Carolina.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Jacquline R. (Rice) Swift, in 2010; and two brothers, Gene Swift and Ronnie Swift.
Friends will be received on Friday, January 6, 2023, at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. 2nd St., Oakland, from 5 to 7 PM and on Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 10 to 11 AM, at which time a funeral service will be held in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Matthew Paugh officiating. Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
