Arelene Friend

Arelene Faye (Bittinger) Friend, 83, of Oakland, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on May 26, 1939, in Jennings, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Russel Sherman and Ruth (Bittinger) Bittinger.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed listening to the radio station, 88.9. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Friend of Fredericksburg, VA, and Gary Friend and wife Danita of Oakland; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Thomas and husband William of Oakland; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; several step-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Hare of Salisbury, PA, and Doris Engle of Meyersdale PA; a sister-in-law, Lois Bittinger of Grantsville; and a host of nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert "Bob" Wesley Friend on November 29, 2016; two brothers, Willard Bittinger and David Bittinger; two sisters, Rosalee Bittinger and Gloria McKenzie; and a grandson, Anthony Lee Friend.

A special thank you to her niece, Charlene Friend, for the wonderful care she provided to Arelene over the years and a special Thank You to Angie Kave for her care and support.

Friends will be received on Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 11 AM to 12 noon, at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St. Oakland. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon, with Pastor Russell Liller officiating. Interment will follow in the Taylor Sines Cemetery.
