Alvin Bernard

Alvin Alexander Bernard, 78, of Swanton died on Monday, December 5, 2022, at his home. Born on February 6, 1944, in Swanton, he was the son of the late Wade A. and Mary "Edna" (Custer) Bernard.

Alvin was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. Prior to his retirement, he worked for Westvaco. He was a member of the Rocky Drean Assembly of God and member of the their church board for over thirty years.

He is survived by his children, Amy Roth and husband Willie of Oakland, Jamie Bernard and wife Ellida of Midland, VA, and Jason Bernard and wife Ashley of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Tyler Roth and wife Megan of Oakland, Tayler George and husband Tynan of Eglon, WV, Warren, Mary, Rosalie and Wade Bernard of Midland, and Weston Bernard of Hagerstown; great grandchildren, Barrett George and Walker Roth; sisters, Wilma Bernard of Cumberland and Mary Harvey and husband Joe of Oakland; brothers, Leroy Bernard and wife Patricia of Oakland, John Bernard and wife Norma of Oakland, and Robert Bernard and wife Joann of Oakland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of forty-five years, Nancy Jane (Hardesty) Bernard, on November 23, 2022, and sisters, Mildred Skipper and Dorothy Cathell.

Friends will be received at the Lakeside Assembly of God, 18012 Garrett Hwy, Oakland, on Saturday from 10 to 11 AM at which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor William C. Skipper officiating. Military honors by the combined honor guard of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077 will be accorded at the church. Private family interment will be in the Lohr Cemetery, Swanton.
