Reading To Heal
Vonda Lee Shreve, 78, of Oakland, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2019, in the comfort of her home. Born on March 17, 1941, in Aurora, WV, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Rosala (Knotts) Cummings. Vonda was a graduate of Southern High School who worked throughout her life as an upholsterer and a homemaker. She was a member of the Shady Dell Chapel and enjoyed studying the Bible and sharing the Gospel with everyone she met. Vonda was also fond of gardening, sewing, crafts, and creating flower arrangements, baking pies and making deviled eggs. But most importantly, Vonda had a big heart and will be remembered for caring for others, especially her elders. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Waters of Morgantown; a grandson, Brandon Waters of Baltimore; sisters, Jean Noel-Trickett, Erma Marshall and husband Dale, and Neomia Holler and husband Thomas; a brother, Keith Cummings and fiancée Donna Beckman; a sister-in-law, Terry Cummings; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ervin Shreve; a granddaughter, Brittney Waters; sisters, Helen Newell and Vera Cummings; sisters-in-law, Ivadine and Mona Cummings; two brothers, Kenneth and Allen Cummings; brothers-in-law, Myron Newell, Junior Noel, and Henry Trickett. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, from 4 to 8PM. A funeral service will be held in Shady Dell Chapel on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at 11AM with Rev. Donald Uphold and Rev. Michael Bernard officiating. Interment will follow in the Stemple Ridge Cemetery. The family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to Dr. Shannon and the staff at WVU Cancer Institute at Garrett Regional Medical Center, and the Amish community for their love and kindness, and extended family and friends for their love and support.
