Lonnie Ray Bentley, 74, of Oakland passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, surrounded by his loving family and extended family. He fought a good fight, he has finished his course and has kept the faith. He was a member of the Brookside Church of the Brethren. Born on July 28, 1943, in Etty, KY, he was the son of the late Theodore and Belle Bentley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Philip, a sister, Mildred, and two brothers, Helton and Samuel. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 51 years, Linda; a daughter, Paula; son in law, Tim; two grandpuppies, Me Me and Ollie; a sister, Melpha; a brother, Johnny; numerous nieces and nephews; and his friend, Bill, who was just like a brother. Lonnie moved to Oakland in 1964, at which time he helped drill the gas wells in Accident, MD. He later worked in the coal field for a short time and then worked at the Oakland Coca Cola Bottling Plant. His career then took him back to the coal mines at Alpine Complex where he worked for over 28 years. He retired in 1997 from UMWA Local 1444, Bayard, WV. Lonnie was a loving and devoted husband and father who spoiled his girls immensely. He enjoyed cooking for benefit functions; he was especially known for his sausage gravy far and wide. He enjoyed the outdoors, being in the woods and deer hunting, and the last few years, Shady Acres Motorcross Park where he was the #1 spokesperson. Lonnie was also known as an extremely friendly people-person who enjoyed fellowship with all. He especially enjoyed fun evenings with the McWrinkle Club at the Oakland McDonald's, where he and his wife formed many strong bonds.
